TRADITIONAL ARTISAN OF APPLIQUE WORK (STATE AWARD WINNER)

Profile of Artist:

Meera Mishra has inherited the art of appliqué work from her mother. As a young girl when she realized the financial condition of her family she started assisting her mother and grandmother in this art work.

The dedication and passion for this art continued even after her marriage. Unfortunately she lost her husband after 9 years of her marriage and all of a sudden the financial burden was on her shoulders. She did not waste any time and took a professional training in appliqué artwork and started doing her own work.

Meera’s hard work and perseverance was noted and her handwork was appreciated and finally she won the state award.

Meera Mishra feels proud about her artwork, she is happy as she is now supporting 25 families, whose ladies are assisting her in traditional appliqué work of Bihar.
